IWD: Dismantle barriers hindering women’s progress – FCT NUJ chairman tells Nigerian Govt, others

Nigerian Union of Journalists Chair Calls for Action to Support Women’s Advancement
Grace Ike, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, emphasized the need for collective action to remove obstacles hindering women’s progress as the world observes International Women’s Day 2026.
In her message delivered on Sunday, Ike highlighted this year’s theme, “Give To Gain,” noting that it underscores the importance of investing deliberately in women.
As the first female chair of the council, she urged that discussions on mentorship for young female journalists should evolve into concrete actions. “Governments, institutions, media organizations, and communities must work together to dismantle barriers that hinder women’s progress,” Ike stated.
On this occasion, she also recognized the remarkable contributions of women within the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the media community in the Federal Capital Territory, and across the country.
