Jigawa govt removes 22 vendors over alleged cheating in Ramadan feeding programme

Jigawa State Government Dismisses 22 Vendors from Ramadan Iftar Program

JIGAWA, Nigeria — The Jigawa State Government has dismissed 22 vendors and companies from its ongoing Ramadan Iftar program due to allegations of cheating, dishonesty regarding food quality and quantity, and questionable financial practices.

The program, which aims to provide relief and nutritious meals to 7.9 million beneficiaries at 640 free meal centers across the state, was launched by Governor Umar Namadi to assist vulnerable citizens during the 2026 Ramadan period.

In a statement released on Friday, Auwalu Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, cited gross misconduct, mismanagement of public funds, and poor program management as the reasons for the dismissals.

The action followed a field monitoring report that revealed serious misconduct by several vendors, prompting swift intervention by the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

The dismissed vendors include Haruna Ladan Inv. and Property, Musa A. Jibrin from Jahun Local Government Area, as well as individuals from Taura, Kafin Hausa, Birnin Kudu, Sule Tankarkar, Hadejia, Malam Madori, Guri, and Gwaram localities.

Commissioner Sankara emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward actions that undermine the humanitarian mission of Governor Namadi’s administration. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards throughout the program.

“We are already in the process of substituting these individuals with deserving contractors,” Sankara added, stating that the administration will not compromise on standards, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
