Kaduna Court Sentences Man to Prison for Cybercrime

A Kaduna State High Court has sentenced Emmanuel Kachina, known as “Johnny Depp,” to one year in prison for cybercrime and impersonation.

The ruling was issued on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, by Justice Khobo Darius during a session in Kaduna. Kachina faced multiple charges related to cybercrime, including impersonation, which violate Nigeria’s cybercrime laws. He pleaded guilty to the charges, leading the court to move directly to sentencing.

In delivering the sentence, Justice Darius emphasized the judiciary’s commitment to combatting cyber-related crimes and identity fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which secured the conviction, reiterated its dedication to fighting cybercrime. The agency urged the public to refrain from engaging in internet fraud and impersonation, warning that offenders would face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
