Kano govt revokes Doguwa road contract over delays

Kano State Government Revokes Contract for Doguwa Road Project

The Kano State Government has revoked the contract for the five-kilometre Doguwa road project due to prolonged delays and the contractor’s failure to meet performance standards.

Engineers from the Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation conducted an inspection tour led by Commissioner Nura Ma’aji Sumaila. The inspection revealed significant dissatisfaction regarding the pace, quality, and overall standards of work at the project site, prompting the decision to terminate the contract.

During the inspection, Sumaila noted that the ministry had previously issued multiple warnings to the contractor, urging adherence to the project timeline and specifications. “Despite repeated directives and monitoring visits, the contractor failed to demonstrate meaningful progress, compelling the government to terminate the agreement,” he stated.

The commissioner emphasized that revoking the contract was essential to protect public interest and ensure accountability, transparency, and value for money in infrastructure execution. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to enforcing contractual standards and safeguarding public funds.

Sagiru Ado Abubakar, an information officer with the ministry, confirmed the contract’s revocation in a statement distributed to the press in Kano. He added that the government remains dedicated to ensuring the eventual completion of the road project, which aims to enhance connectivity and benefit residents of Doguwa and surrounding communities.
