Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered four stolen vehicles in a series of operations targeting car theft.
In a statement released Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa reported that the arrests resulted from intelligence-led operations conducted by the command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit. The initiative aligns with the directives of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu to enhance investigative efforts and security measures statewide.
“The success of these operations underscores our commitment to intelligence-driven strategies aimed at combating crime in Kano State,” Kiyawa said.
The first operation occurred on March 7, 2026, when officers intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra at the Naibawa Flyover Bridge. Two suspects, identified as 29-year-old Ibrahim Muhd from Minna, Niger State, and 32-year-old Ahmed Sani from Abuja, were apprehended while driving the vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Abuja.
“The suspects were driving the vehicle when they confessed it was stolen,” Kiyawa noted in the statement.
On March 9, the Anti-Car Theft Unit arrested Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, from Malali Quarters in Kaduna State, who was found in possession of a Honda Civic at Kwanar Dawaki along the Kano–Zaria Expressway. Mamman admitted to stealing the vehicle from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.
Another suspect, 28-year-old Yusuf Ali from Kaduna State, was arrested in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla that had reportedly been stolen from Dutse in Jigawa State. Additionally, police recovered a white Nissan Sunny believed to have been stolen from a parking lot in Kano metropolis.
All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. “They are undergoing further investigation and will be charged in court once the process is complete,” the statement added.
The police command expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance and cooperation in providing information that aids law enforcement efforts. “We appreciate the continued support from community members and encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” Kiyawa emphasized.
The Kano State Police Command remains dedicated to intensifying efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents.
