Kebbi State Government Establishes Visitation Panel for Abdullahi Fodio University
Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria — The Kebbi State Government has formed a visitation panel to investigate ongoing administrative and academic challenges at Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUST) in Aliero.
Governor Nasir Idris inaugurated the panel on Monday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. The panel is chaired by Professor Muhammad Abubakar Ka’oje, a former Minister of Science and Technology and the university’s inaugural Vice-Chancellor.
The government’s decision to establish the panel follows prolonged internal disputes within the institution, particularly between the university’s management and its governing council. These issues have persisted despite previous interventions by the Ministry of Higher Education.
According to the state government, the ongoing crises have disrupted both academic and administrative functions at the university. Governor Idris expressed concern over the potential impact on the stability of the institution, noting that unresolved disagreements have raised questions about the governing council’s and management’s ability to function effectively.
The visitation panel is tasked with examining the current issues and providing recommendations to address the challenges confronting the university. Additionally, the state government has directed the university’s administration to cooperate fully with the panel by supplying necessary documents, including financial records, to aid its investigation.
In response, Professor Ka’oje assured that the panel members would conduct their review impartially and work toward solutions that would benefit the institution.
