Kerr stuns fans with rollercoaster contract announcement

Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has signed a contract extension with Chelsea FC, keeping her in London until at least the end of the 2026 season.

The 30-year-old, who is sidelined with an ACL injury, revealed on Thursday night (AEST) that she had re-committed to the English powerhouse for two more years.

Before announcing she had re-signed, Kerr and Chelsea teased fans that she was leaving the club with an emotional social media video.

“My time at Chelsea has been unforgettable,” she said.

“Lots of great memories made, lifelong dreams, winning trophies, but the things that will stick with me the most are the memories shared with fans and my teammates.

“To the fans, just remember that I’ll always be Chelsea. When I joined this place, everything felt alienated to me, but now, this place feels like home.”

But just 20 minutes later, Kerr revealed that she was indeed staying put.

“What’s all this? I’m not leaving,” she said.

The striker has been a prominent part of Chelsea’s WSL success over recent years, helping them to multiple trophies and scoring 58 goals in 75 appearances.

Kerr will miss the upcoming Olympics due to her knee injury in a major blow to Australia’s hopes of claiming a gold medal.
