Lagos Agency Confirms Referral of TikTok Creator’s Sexual Assault Case to Ogun State Authorities
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has announced that it has referred a sexual assault allegation involving TikTok content creator Mirabel, known on social media as @mirab351, to the relevant authorities in Ogun State.
In a statement released Wednesday, the agency revealed it has been in touch with a close associate of the survivor, who confirmed that she has been discharged from the hospital.
“We appreciate the public’s response, which allowed us to communicate with a friend of the survivor who confirmed her hospital discharge,” the agency noted.
The case has drawn significant attention on social media, with discussions under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen prompting widespread public outrage and renewed calls for enhanced protections for survivors of sexual violence.
The DSVA acknowledged the contributions of the public, stating, “We sincerely appreciate those who provided helpful information via our direct messages, as well as everyone who tagged the Agency for swift intervention.”
Information shared by the survivor indicated that the alleged assault took place on Sunday, February 15, and was made public on February 16. However, the agency clarified that preliminary findings indicated the incident did not occur within Lagos State.
“We have confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State, which is outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency,” the DSVA stated. It added that all pertinent details have been forwarded to the appropriate authorities to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
“In the spirit of interagency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information has been shared with the authorities in Ogun State,” the agency emphasized.
The DSVA expressed confidence in the Ogun State Police Command’s handling of the matter, highlighting the importance of the survivor’s cooperation in the investigative process.
“We trust that the survivor will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to enable a thorough investigation and ensure due process,” the agency stated.
Reiterating its commitment, the DSVA remains focused on supporting survivors and providing access to reporting channels for instances of sexual and domestic violence.
