Lagos govt denies resumption of monthly sanitation exercise

Lagos State Government Addresses Misconceptions About Environmental Sanitation Exercise

The Lagos State Government has clarified that its monthly environmental sanitation exercise has not yet resumed.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that there has been no official announcement regarding the start date of the exercise. This clarification comes as residents have raised concerns about blocked drains and improper waste disposal across the state.

Wahab indicated that consultations with relevant stakeholders are ongoing to establish a suitable schedule for the sanitation initiative. He mentioned that a sensitization program intended for last week was delayed due to logistical challenges.

“The plan was to begin with a sensitization program last week; however, due to logistical issues, we have not commenced,” Wahab said. “We are working to identify a date that accommodates all parties involved.”

The commissioner noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will announce the official date for the sanitation exercise once it is determined. He urged residents to continue their daily activities without interruption and assured that sufficient notice will be given prior to the resumption of the sanitation program.
