Lagos govt threatens enforcement against 2025 Land Use Charge defaulters

Lagos State Warns Property Owners on Unsettled Land Use Charges

LAGOS — The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to property owners regarding outstanding payments for the 2025 Land Use Charge, urging them to settle their accounts before enforcement actions commence.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance announced the issuance of the 2026 Land Use Charge bills. The statement, signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Adeleke Quadri, emphasized the importance of prompt payments and highlighted a 15% discount available for early settlement.

“The government also notifies the public that enforcement actions against those who defaulted on the 2025 Land Use Charge will commence soon,” the statement read.

The Land Use Charge serves as a crucial revenue source for the state, facilitating the construction, maintenance, and upgrading of essential public infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, and schools. The revenue generated also plays a vital role in funding major initiatives, including the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue and Red Lines, which aim to improve transportation and reduce commuting times in the region.

Additionally, the funds have supported the development and rehabilitation of key roads and bridges to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity. Investments from this revenue have also bolstered healthcare facilities and security initiatives, contributing to a safer environment for residents and businesses.

Tajudeen Mahmud, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, emphasized the need for compliance among property owners. He described the Land Use Charge as not merely a legal obligation but a civic duty that fosters the state’s growth and development.

“Every payment made contributes to better roads, improved healthcare, quality education, enhanced security, and a cleaner environment. We therefore urge property owners to meet their obligations promptly and support the government’s vision of building a greater Lagos,” Mahmud stated.

The statement reaffirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to building a safe, resilient, and globally competitive megacity. Through intentional policies and sustained investment in infrastructure, the government aims to promote sustainable development, attract investment, and enhance Lagos’ position as a major hub for commerce and innovation.

All property owners are encouraged to fulfill their civic responsibilities by remitting their Land Use Charges promptly. Payments can be made via multiple channels, including internet banking, designated bank branches across the state, USSD mobile payment platforms, Point of Sale terminals at Land Use Charge offices, and the Lagos Revenue Portal.

Eligible property owners are reminded of the opportunity to take advantage of the 15% early payment discount, contributing to the ongoing development and transformation of Lagos State.
