Lagos State Government Forms Committee for Late Oba Akran’s Burial Arrangements

LAGOS—The Lagos State Government has established a Central Planning Committee to oversee the arrangements for the burial of the late Oba Babatunde Akran, Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, the Akran of Badagry, who passed away on January 12 at the age of 89 following a brief illness.

The announcement of the committee’s formation highlighted the need for unity, transparency, and adherence to tradition in planning the final rites for the late monarch.

The committee will be chaired by Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government. Nunayon Ahisu has been appointed as co-chairman, with Dr. Olajide Messewaku serving as secretary.

The government’s directive outlines that the committee’s primary task is to ensure a dignified and well-organized burial that honors the legacy and stature of Oba Akran.
