Landlord’s son kills tenant during brawl in Ondo

Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Nursing Mother in Ore, Ondo State

ORE, Ondo State — A 27-year-old man named Kazeem Awe has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the fatal stabbing of a nursing mother, Motunrayo Adeleye, in the Alaba area of Ore, the headquarters of the Odigbo Local Council Area.

Authorities report that the altercation, which occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. near a well-known school, stemmed from a disagreement over unpaid rent between Awe and the deceased’s family. According to police, Awe, who is the son of the victim’s landlord, allegedly attacked Adeleye with a cutlass during the dispute.

In the violent encounter, Motunrayo’s husband, Mathew Adeleye, and their daughter were also injured. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with residents fleeing for safety as the incident unfolded.

Mathew Adeleye, speaking from his hospital bed, explained that the conflict arose after tenants, including his family, received quit notices despite their rent not being overdue. “We were in the process of finding another place to live and were preparing to move on the day of the incident,” he stated.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident and stated that both Mathew and their daughter are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ore. Tragically, Motunrayo was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility. Her body has been moved to the hospital’s mortuary for further examination.
