Lawmaker raises alarm over rising kidnappings, killings in Ekiti communities

Akin Rotimi Jr., a member of the House of Representatives, has expressed serious concern about the escalating incidents of kidnapping and violence in Ekiti State, urging immediate action from security agencies.
Rotimi, who represents the Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency, raised the issue during a plenary session in Abuja on Tuesday. He highlighted the significant threat to residents, stating that many communities are grappling with a rise in attacks by suspected kidnappers and armed criminals, which has left residents fearful and uncertain.
“The recent increase in such attacks has disrupted farming and other economic activities, as many farmers are now hesitant to go to their farms due to safety concerns,” he said.
Rotimi called on the Federal Government and security agencies to enhance surveillance, deploy additional personnel to vulnerable communities, and improve intelligence efforts to address the growing crisis of kidnappings and killings.
He also advocated for stronger collaboration among local vigilantes, traditional leaders, and security operatives to improve the protection of lives and property in affected areas.
