LIVE: Gallen ‘under the skin’ of Maroons coach

Notorious Origin antagonist Paul Gallen claims he is still getting under Queensland’s skin even years after his retirement.

Gallen famously labelled Queenslanders “two heads” in 2014, and in 2015 was paid by the NRL to pump up ticket sales ahead of game two at the MCG.

To do so he took aim at Maroons fullback Billy Slater.

Slater is now coaching Queensland, but Gallen claims he remains in the legendary fullback’s head.

“Even after all these years I still get under the Queenslanders’ skin just a little bit,” he said on 2GB’s Wide World of Sports radio.

“Last night on 100% Footy we were interviewing Billy Slater – and Darryl Brohman, who is a staunch Queenslander – asked Billy what was the conversation like with guys like Dane Gagai and Kalyn Ponga and how did he leave them out of the side?

“Billy replied, his first couple of lines were ‘well a lot people were questioning me, including the man on that panel Paul Gallen’, and as soon as he said that I thought ‘yes, yes, I still get them’. Even if it’s the slightest little bit, I still get them, they’re either listening to what I say or reading what I say, or listening to our show on Tuesday night.

“So I’m saying we’re already 1-0 up here ladies and gentlemen. I’ve got under Billy Slater’s skin just a little bit, just enough.”
