LIVE: Gold medal shot 'nervous' for titanic clash

A blockbuster women’s 200m freestyle showdown between Mollie O’Callaghan, the world record holder and the 2023 world champion, and Ariarne Titmus, the reigning Olympic gold medallist, will get the evening started.

O’Callaghan’s 200m freestyle world record is 1:52.85. Can either she or Titmus break it?

O’Callaghan admitted to being “very, very nervous” ahead of the clash.

“There’s a lot of pressure riding on this event, especially having the world record in it, and especially a lot of pressure from myself,” O’Callaghan told reporters at Brisbane Aquatic Centre.

“I’m my biggest critic. Whatever happens, happens. I would really love to make the team in this event and do the best job I can.”

Rounding out the field of eight are Meg Harris, Brianna Throssell, Lani Pallister, Jamie Perkins, Shayna Jack and Brittany Castelluzzo.
