Man allegedly beaten to death by car park officials in Lagos

Man Dies Following Alleged Assault by Car Park Officials in Lagos
A man identified as Opeyemi Lawal died following an alleged beating by officials at a car park in the Marina area of Lagos Island, Lagos State, on Sunday. The incident reportedly arose after Lawal was accused of theft.
According to sources, Lawal was assaulted by two officials, resulting in injuries that ultimately led to his death. Eyewitnesses described a violent encounter, stating that the victim was tied up and severely beaten. Sheriff Ojon, a Facebook user who shared details of the incident, claimed that Lawal’s pleas for mercy went unheard by both the assailants and onlookers.
Ojon indicated that attempts by local residents to intervene, particularly to persuade one attacker referred to as “Alhaji,” were unsuccessful. Witnesses recounted that community members begged for Lawal’s release, expressing concerns for his well-being.
An eyewitness reported that Lawal, aware of the severity of his injuries, begged the attackers to stop, warning that he was near death. The assailant reportedly justified his refusal to release Lawal by stating he had been insulted by the victim two days prior.
In the aftermath, residents gathered at a local police division on Monday to protest Lawal’s death. A woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, described how traders and community members pleaded with the assailants during the attack but were ignored.
Images circulating on social media display visible bruises on Lawal’s body.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Lagos State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi went unanswered at the time of this report.
