Heavy Rainfall Displaces Residents in Ibadan
IBADAN, Oyo State – A severe rainfall on Friday has left several residents of Ibadan displaced, damaging homes and infrastructure across various neighborhoods.
Preliminary reports indicate that properties valued in the millions of naira were affected as the rainstorm wreaked havoc, particularly in areas such as Alaaka, Igbonna, and along the Apete-Awotan-Akufo Road.
A local resident, who requested anonymity, urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assist those impacted by the storm. “Some houses were damaged in our area, and at least five buildings are affected,” he said. “Many people have been displaced as a result of this incident.”
In addition to residential damage, some equipment at Noble 107.1 FM Ibadan was also reportedly destroyed during the storm, leading to the station being off air since the event. A staff member, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the disruption. “We have been off air since yesterday, and we are currently working to repair the equipment and resume broadcasting,” he stated.
Emergency management officials have yet to respond to requests for assistance. Further assessments are expected as the situation develops.
