Marco Silva Praises Samuel Chukwueze’s Strength After Mother’s Death

Fulham Manager Commends Samuel Chukwueze Following Family Tragedy

Fulham manager Marco Silva has praised midfielder Samuel Chukwueze for his resilience and professionalism following the recent death of his mother, Sarah. The Nigerian international passed away after a brief illness, a loss that comes shortly after fellow Super Eagles player Wilfred Ndidi experienced the death of his father in a car accident.

Chukwueze shared a close bond with his mother, often seen together during his visits to Nigeria. An emotional moment has resurfaced online in which she prayed for him prior to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), underscoring their strong relationship.

Despite this personal tragedy, Chukwueze has continued to contribute to Fulham, starting in their recent Premier League match against Manchester United. He delivered a spirited performance, which included both attacking and defensive responsibilities, although he did not record any goals or assists as Fulham suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat.

Ahead of this weekend’s match against Everton, Silva confirmed that Chukwueze remains a candidate for a starting position and commended his attitude during this challenging time. “He took a decision to play; he feels very well here. It’s been a tough moment for him and his family. It’s nice to see him smiling every day,” Silva said.

Chukwueze is expected to postpone his trip to Nigeria for his mother’s burial until the summer, focusing instead on helping Fulham secure a strong finish in the league. Currently, the club sits ninth in the Premier League, seven points behind the Champions League qualification spots. A series of positive results could enhance their chances of European football next season.
