Mental health is more spiritual than it is physical. Rededicate your life to the God you serve – Actress Genevieve Nnaji advises

This is true, and knowing this is is the first step to lifting a huge burden off your shoulders. Some church pastors are the major cause of depression and other mental health issues. Check out what most of the church daddies in this country are preaching and you will see that it is the same abominable doctrine that Satan preached to Eve in Eden that they try to pass off as Christianity— trying to be godly (be like God) by human effort at keeping the law which gives the knowledge of good and evil. The result is still the same: sin has dominion and death reigns. Believer in Christ, understand that doing good things, being obedient, trying to live a godly life and other human attempts at attaining godliness aka man’s “righteous deeds” are like a menstruation rag before God—
“We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in Your sight.” Isaiah 64:6—
God does not expect you to produce good by yourself. He knows you cannot. He gave His own Son to die for us for this purpose— that we might have everlasting righteousness in Him. We might think—
“But I do my best to be a good person.”
Not so, beloved. It is not you, doing. Man has no good of himself. Not one. Even as believers, understand that the following passage from Corinthians is the only reason why you and I who follow Christ are not wallowing in heinous sins and Job-type calamities right now—
12 “So beware if you think it could never happen to you, lest your pride becomes your downfall. 13 We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust Him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously.” 1 Corinthians 10.
If God was not screening and filtering, well…. Like Peter before he was humbled by his denials, many, especially religious leaders, do not realize that God’s mercy is the “Skeleton” that is propping up “none good” man from exhibiting the fullness of sins that is associated with man’s humanity. Trusting in human effort to not sin/keep the law results in plenty sins as was the case with Peter’s denials. That is what the law was designed to do, to cause sins to increase—
“The law was given that sins might increase…” Romans 5:20.—-
Plodding on in human strength/the arm of flesh that will fail to make things right with God (more law-keeping) only lands one in Judas’ situation after he followed that path — depressed and suicidal.
Beloved of God, what do we think is the major cause of depression and suicide? It is guilt for sins, fear, anxiety, hopelessness and sorrow in the heart for imperfections aka not measuring up to particular standards – no different from what happened to Judas who was full of remorse and blamed himself for his sin. It is missing the mark of PERFECTION. And that imperfection in any facet of life, even being too fat or not having a nice body or not being at the same level of your primary school peers, it leads to worry and anxiety. Proverbs 12 says — “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.”” The word “sin” is translated from the Greek word Hamartia- literally “miss the mark.” All have “missed the mark.” And the law demands that the sinner must die. And Bible death (Thanatos in Greek) is a process that begins with all sorts of earthly ills like stupid mistakes and lack. That anxiety from missing the mark of perfection in any facet of life is what leads to depression and mental health issues that many are battling today. Even non-Christians are not immune to the effects of trusting in oneself in order to be deemed “good.” Or hitting the mark of perfection aka being like God. Like the law of gravity which does not require one to believe that it exists before it impacts one’s life, the law of sin and death which governs all who depend on themselves (and not Christ) to be called “good” (be like God,) it does not require belief in God the RIGHTEOUS JUDGE to impact the lives of those who are under it. This is why the world keeps on wondering why bad things happen to people who seem to be checking all the boxes of their definition of “a good person.” Christ says—
“There is none good but God.”
Satan the accuser or prosecutor at law knows this better than many churchgoers so he and his pulpit-manning mouthpieces are frantically preaching that false doctrine of doing righteousness in order to be RIGHTEOUS and ACCEPTED by God; pushing the flock to try to keep the law in order to be good/be like God. They know that the law condemns the best of those who try to obey it in order to become perfect or be anything before God the Righteous Judge. But only in Christ the Beloved are we ACCEPTED; only His blood makes RIGHTEOUS.
HaSatan is literally “PROSECUTOR at law” in Hebrew. In Israel today, prosecuting attorneys are called HaSatan. Like any prosecuting lawyer, the only weapon in Satan’s arsenal which he uses as a launchpad to accuse and to put people behind bars is the law. And the punishment is death. So never trust yourself to be perfect like Judas who became depressed and suicidal for his efforts at restoring himself to the level that he wanted and getting his conscience to be at rest. Trust and confess Christ as your Perfection and watch depression melt away from your life. Only by His Grace.
