Military assumes security in Bauchi’s Alkaleri LGA to stop bandits

Nigerian Military Assumes Security Operations in Alkaleri Amid Bandit Threats

Bauchi, Nigeria — In response to ongoing bandit attacks, the Nigerian military has taken control of security operations in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

An army spokesperson stated that the military aims to eliminate any safe haven for criminal elements in the region. This move comes after state Governor Bala Mohammed’s appeal to the Federal Government for urgent assistance to address the invasion of communities by armed groups.

On Tuesday, Governor Mohammed met with Major General Eyitayo Foluso Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, at the Government House in Bauchi. Oyinlola’s visit aligns with directives from the Chief of Defence Staff to oversee military operations in Alkaleri following recent security incidents.

During the meeting, Oyinlola informed the governor that additional troops would be deployed to the area as part of efforts to restore lasting peace in affected communities.

The GOC assured that the military would implement both proactive and coordinated strategies to eliminate criminal elements and prevent further attacks. He mentioned that a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches is already being used to stabilize the situation.

Troops have intensified clearance operations, increased surveillance in known hotspots, and bolstered collaboration with other security agencies to combat further incursions. Oyinlola also indicated that intelligence-driven operations are actively underway to dismantle criminal hideouts and disrupt the movements of armed groups in the region. Furthermore, additional logistics and manpower have been mobilized to ensure a sustained security presence in Alkaleri and its surrounding areas.
