Minister of Women Affairs Expresses Support for Cancer Patients on World Cancer Day

In a message marking World Cancer Day on February 4, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, extended her solidarity to Nigerian women affected by cancer, including survivors and the families supporting them.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim commended the courage and resilience displayed by women battling the disease, emphasizing that they are not alone in their struggle. She highlighted that their strength serves as an inspiration for many throughout the country.

The minister noted that effective cancer care goes beyond medical treatment, stressing the importance of emotional and moral support in the recovery process. She explained that compassion—through kind words, attentive listening, and companionship—plays a crucial role in restoring strength and dignity to those impacted by cancer.

Reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to mitigating the cancer burden, Sulaiman-Ibrahim assured that her ministry would prioritize awareness initiatives, promote early detection, and ensure access to care. Additionally, she indicated that the ministry plans to support cancer survivors through partnerships, community outreach, and targeted programs.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant organizations to provide women with timely information, screening opportunities, and necessary referrals. She underlined that prompt action can save lives.

The minister urged Nigerian women to prioritize their health by engaging in regular medical check-ups and preventative care, while also encouraging proactive help-seeking behaviors at early stages of illness.

Furthermore, she called for an end to the stigma and fear surrounding cancer, advocating for greater understanding and support for those living with the disease.

In closing, Sulaiman-Ibrahim urged collective action to foster a compassionate society where no woman faces cancer alone. She reiterated that empathy, unity, informed choices, and ongoing support are essential to achieving healthier futures for women in Nigeria.
