Taraba State Mobile Court Impounds Trucks in Illegal Mining Crackdown
WUKARI, Nigeria — The Taraba State Mobile Court on Environmental Protection, Public Safety, and Prohibition of Deforestation conducted an enforcement operation over the weekend, targeting illegal mining activities along the Wukari–Chinkai route.
On Friday, court officials, following a surveillance patrol along the Wukari highway, intercepted several trucks transporting coal and other solid minerals believed to have been mined unlawfully.
An official, speaking with a reporter, confirmed that the vehicles were immediately impounded. The offenders faced summary trials in accordance with the state’s executive order regulating environmental protection and mining operations.
Authorities emphasized that Executive Order No. 5 remains in effect and will be enforced rigorously across the state. They urged residents and those in the mining sector to desist from illegal mining activities, warning that legal repercussions await violators.
Officials highlighted that illegal mining significantly impacts the environment, contributing to land degradation, threats to human survival, disruption of food security, and increased risks to public safety.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the environment and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of current and future generations.
