More Bad News For Democrats: Asian-Americans Switching To GOP

As more Hispanic Americans become disillusioned with the Democrat Party, another voting bloc that has been fairly reliable may also be jumping ship. With issues like school admissions becoming more discriminatory to them, more Asian-Americans are taking a second look at the Republican Party, and they are liking what they see.

According to the 2020 U.S. census, the Asian population grew by a substantial margin of 35.5% between 2010 and 2020. It is the fastest growing non-white population, and they are not happy with president Joe Biden. A January poll showed his approval with Asian-Americans at 55%.

Finding Their Voice And Speaking Out

In a recent interview with The Daily Caller, former U.N. Ambassador in the Trump administration, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, herself the daughter of Indian immigrants said,

“Asian American families want the same things as any other family in this country – the opportunity to work hard, live in a safe community, a provide the best life for their children. That’s why people from every walk of life are supporting GOP candidates. They agree our message is the right one and that we have the solutions to lift up all Americans.”

The opinions of Asian-Americans have not always been designated a separate demographic because of the comparatively small population compared with Black, Hispanic, and White voters. But according to a Daily Caller report, Republican Asian-Americans say the tide is turning, and there is a shift in their communities towards the Republican Party.

The Big Issues

One of the biggest issues that Asian-Americans are at odds with is the rise of discrimination against Asian students in the name of “equity.” In February in San Francisco, three school board members were ousted after attempting to discontinue the merit-based admissions process of Lowell High School, a prestigious college-prep school where the student population is predominantly Asian.

A grass roots Asian-American voter outreach group claimed that over 500 Asian-Americans had registered to vote for the school board election. During the COVID pandemic, Asian-Americans also saw a rise in hate crimes directed towards them.

An April 2021 Pew Research poll showed that 32% of Asian adults feared some sort of threat or physical attack against them. Of those polled, 81% said they felt that violence towards Asian-Americans was increasing.

Minorities Tired Of Being Taken Advantage Of By Democrats

While Hispanics have long been considered reliable Democrat votes, that is also beginning to change. Hispanic support for the Republican Party is growing rapidly in Texas, and especially in counties along the U.S. southern border.

Texas’ March primary election was a good one for Hispanic Republicans. If the races that resulted in run-off elections go the GOP’s way, as many as eight Hispanic candidates, six of them women would be the Republican congressional nominee for their district.

And Joe Biden’s presidency is not helping Democrats with Hispanic voters. In January, a Quinnipiac poll showed Biden with a 28% approval rating among Hispanics.

New Hampshire Republican Congressional candidate, and Chinese immigrant Lily Tang Williams in an interview with The Daily Caller, agreed that school discrimination has been a front and center issue for Asian-American voters.

“Lot’s of Asian-Americans are waking up because when you look at it, the Chinese-American values are they want lower taxes, they want the best quality of education for their kids and their kids are being discriminated” by school acceptance policies. Asian-Americans “also do not like the lawless chaos,” the increase in crime, Democrat COVID-19 lockdown policies, and the wide-open Southern border.”

Lily Tang Williams summed up what Democrats are telling Asian-Americans regarding the school acceptance issue, “Wokeism [tells Asians] ‘hey, your color is not black enough.’” The Asian-American population is yet another group that the Democrat Party may take for granted at their own peril.
