NAPPS suspends Delta Executive over gross misconduct, constitutional violations

Delta NAPPS Executive Suspended for Misconduct

ASABA, Nigeria — The South-South zonal leadership of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has placed the executive committee in Delta State on indefinite suspension, citing serious allegations of misconduct.

The announcement came during a press conference on Monday, led by Zonal President Ochuko Akpeme. He accused the executives, particularly State Chairman Mrs. Precious Young, of gross misconduct and violations of the association’s constitution.

The suspended officials face charges including insubordination, disseminating misleading information to members, making unauthorized decisions, and failing to remit dues owed to both the zonal and national branches.

In a formal suspension letter signed by Akpeme and other zonal leaders, the Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) invoked its constitutional powers to remove the state officers, detailing multiple infractions of the amended NAPPS Constitution. The suspension letter was also addressed to the National President of NAPPS, local police, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, the Commissioner for Primary Education, as well as other important stakeholders in the state’s education sector.

“We may hand them over to the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission). It may get to that,” Akpeme stated during the press briefing. “We have warned them to refrain from embezzling money from local chapters, which they have failed to remit to the zonal and national headquarters.”

He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, asserting that the suspended officials had presented themselves as a neutral body in violation of the association’s constitution and published materials under the association’s name without proper approval from the National Executive Council (NEC).

Akpeme warned that any actions taken by the suspended executives from this point would be deemed “null and void” and potentially treated as criminal.

The decision has raised concerns within the private education sector in Delta State, with stakeholders awaiting further guidance on the interim leadership structure.

As of now, the suspended State Chairman, Mrs. Precious Young, has yet to provide an official response to the allegations. This move is anticipated to lead to significant changes within the Delta chapter as the association aims to restore order and confidence among its members.
