Nasarawa: Residents lament abandoned ₦865m Lafia-Agyaragu Tofa road project

Residents Express Frustration Over Delayed Lafia-Agyaragu Tofa Road Project
LAFIA, Nasarawa State — Residents of the Lafia Local Government Area are voicing their frustration regarding the stalled Lafia-Agyaragu Tofa road project, which has remained incomplete eight years after its award by the state government.
In 2017, the state administration announced the approval of contracts for the construction of the six-kilometer road intended to connect Lafia with Agyaragu and Tofa. Many community members welcomed the announcement, anticipating improved transportation and better access to vital services.
However, as time has passed, the project, estimated to cost approximately ₦865 million, has made little progress, leaving local communities to navigate a deteriorating roadway. The condition of the road has complicated travel for commuters, traders, and residents alike.
To mitigate the poor conditions, some residents have taken matters into their own hands, attempting to repair damaged sections by filling potholes with sandbags. Despite these efforts, the unfinished project continues to exacerbate transportation difficulties, particularly during the rainy season when sections of the road become nearly impassable.
Community members have raised concerns about the impact of the poor road conditions on emergency medical trips to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital. This has heightened worries regarding the safety and accessibility of residents who depend on this route for healthcare, shopping, and education.
