[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] When I tested Neo Sephiri Facial Oil out over a couple of days this week, I used it as a day oil just to get an idea of the texture more than anything. I can’t long-term test many products so I wanted to try it for size and comfort and it’s come up smiling on all fronts. Actually, I think many people think of oils as just a night time skin care item but the lightness of this is absolutely perfect for day time to either give natural skin a light, glowy sheen or to wear under make up.

There’s a lovely story behind Neo Siphri – it’s made in South Africa in the Kalahari Basin on one single farm from Kalahari melon seeds. A Kalahari melon isn’t the same as the melons we see on our shelves in the supermarkets – it’s kind of wild watermelon that’s somewhat smaller with a bitter taste. It traces back over 4000 years and because of its juiciness and availability in the wild was (and is) a source of extra water for both humans and animals. The seeds are rich in fatty acid oils and translate beautifully to skin care.

Aside from being a social venture that pays attention to local employment, the use of these hardy seeds from a pretty much drought resistant plant makes it a viable cottage industry that can withstand climate change which is important when other small industries may not survive.  There’s actually some evidence to suggest the 70% omega-6 oil can recover a struggling skin barrier in around 12 days and all skin types can use it. It’s super expensive for 30ml – £85 but has won several awards including Harpers Bazaar Best of Beauty. I’m not sure I’d comfortably spend that much on an oil but everyone has their own acceptability level and if that’s within yours, it’s really a wonderful product in many ways. You can find it HERE.
