Newborn baby abandoned inside gutter in Lokoja

A day-old baby boy was found alive inside a gutter in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital. 

The incident occurred at Karaworo, near Kutepa Juma’at Mosque on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. 

A woman who identified herself as Talatu Ibrahim, said she heard the cry of a baby around 5am at the back of her window. 

According to her, she ran outside and found the baby dumped in a gutter and raised the alarm. 

Her sister and other residents of the area came out and took the baby to an elderly woman beside her house. 

One Chukwuemeka Muhammed Abubakar of Mohab Foundation, who shared a video from the scene said that the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Kogi State had been contacted and the baby would be handed over to them.
