Nick Cannon explains why he did not allow late son to be treated with chemo

American TV personality and actor, Nick Cannon has explained why he didn’t allow his son Zen, to be treated through chemotherapy before his death last week.

Cannon who suffers from lupus and has taken a chemo drug to treat it, said he didn’t want to prolong the baby’s cancer suffering.

He noted that he decided to focus on Zen’s quality of life rather than any invasive treatments, even though the procedure may have prolonged the child’s life for a while.

The actor told People magazine on Thursday December 16;

“We started asking, ‘Is there a way to prevent this? If not, how long do we have?’

“The conversations quickly turned to, ‘How can we give him the best life for the time that he does have?’ It could be weeks, it could be months, it could be years.”

Cannon who welcomed their baby boy with Alyssa Scott in July, said despite doctors placing a shunt in the baby’s skull to drain fluid, it only helped a little.

He said;

“We were having quality-of-life conversations.

 “We could have had that existence where he would’ve had to live in the hospital, hooked up to machines, for the rest of the time.

“From someone who’s had to deal with chemotherapy before, I know that pain. To see that happen to a 2-month-old, I didn’t want that. I didn’t want him to suffer.”

Cannon and Scott chose to ensure Zen was “as happy as he could possibly be.” He said;

“We focused on Disneyland, our favorite place.

“Every month we would celebrate his birthday, just really seeing it as a victory every time he had a milestone that he was still here with us.”

Tragically, Zen’s condition worsened around Thanksgiving, and Cannon flew out to Los Angeles to be with Zen and Scott. He died when he was just 5-months-old that weekend.

Cannon is also dad to 10-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-wife Mariah Carey, 4-year-old son Golden and 1-year-old daughter Powerful with Brittany Bell and 5-month-old twins Zion and Zillion with Abby De La Rosa.
