Nigerian Army Apprehends Suspected Gunrunner in Taraba State
IBI, Taraba State — On February 12, 2026, troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, arrested a suspected gunrunner in the Ibi Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the brigade, the arrest was made possible through credible intelligence. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim from Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State, is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The operation resulted in the recovery of several items, including six PKT machine guns, two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a cash sum of 170,000 naira. Additionally, authorities confiscated a Peugeot 504 vehicle, a Q Seven mobile phone, seven bottles and wraps of perfume, and two small containers of Vaseline.
Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the diligence and rapid response of the troops, emphasizing the need to maintain operational momentum to fulfill the brigade’s mandate as directed by the Chief of Army Staff.
