‘Nigerian Christians bear brunt of persecution’ – Rep Moore asks Trump to act

U.S. Congressman Calls for Action on Violence Against Christians in Nigeria
U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has highlighted the persistent violence against Christians in Nigeria, urging the United States to take decisive action to address the crisis. Moore’s comments came during a press conference on Thursday, where he described the growing insecurity in the West African nation.
Moore asserted that although violence affects individuals of all faiths, Christians suffer disproportionately. He estimated that Christians are five times more likely to be killed than members of other religious groups, attributing many attacks to Fulani militias and various terrorist organizations.
“Violence and insecurity in Nigeria impact people of all faiths, but Christians bear the overwhelming brunt of the attacks and have suffered in silence for two decades,” Moore said. He highlighted the targeting of Christian leaders and the destruction of religious and educational institutions, especially around significant holy days, noting that tens of thousands have been killed in these assaults.
The congressman praised former President Donald Trump for his commitment to advocating for Christians worldwide and described the current moment as a significant opportunity to enhance U.S.-Nigeria relations while addressing the ongoing security crisis.
Moore also acknowledged the need for support for the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that a stronger political will is essential for effectively tackling the challenges of insecurity in the country.
