Nigerian fashion designer shot dead after nightclub dispute in New York

Nigerian Fashion Designer Shot and Killed in Brooklyn Nightclub Incident

A 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer living in the United States, Sheriff Shittu, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning after a confrontation with an intoxicated patron at a nightclub in Brooklyn, New York.

The incident occurred around 4:25 a.m. at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge, located in the East Flatbush neighborhood. According to preliminary reports, the suspect was involved in a disturbance within the club and was being escorted out by security when the situation escalated. During this escort, the individual allegedly produced a firearm and began firing.

Witnesses indicated that the suspect had been acting disorderly and was accused of making inappropriate advances towards female patrons, including Shittu’s girlfriend, which led to an altercation. Shittu and his younger brother, Fawaz, were at the club to celebrate a friend’s birthday.

Fawaz Shittu described the moment as devastating, recalling his attempts to revive his brother following the shooting. Another relative, Salem Shittu, expressed concern about security protocols at the venue, questioning how a firearm could have breached entrance screening. He asserted that more stringent security measures could have potentially prevented the tragedy.

Authorities stated that the shooter fled the scene immediately after the incident and remains at large. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Sheriff Shittu was transported to One Brooklyn Health, Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Family members characterized him as a determined and creative individual who had relocated to the United States to expand his fashion business and create a better future for himself.
