Nigerian Government Wins International Arbitration Case Against UK Firm
The Progressives Think Tank, a political and policy advocacy group, has commended the Nigerian government for a recent victory in an international arbitration dispute involving the UK-based technology contractor, European Dynamics UK Ltd.
The arbitration, which concluded favorably for Nigeria, involved a $6.2 million claim regarding a national e-procurement project. The tribunal’s ruling, which is final and cannot be appealed, dismissed all claims made by the contractor, freeing Nigeria from potential financial liabilities exceeding $6.2 million, or approximately ₦9.3 billion.
In a statement released in Abuja, Ms. Christiana Titus, the National Coordinator of Progressives Think Tank, highlighted the significance of the outcome. She noted that it underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding public funds and upholding contractual standards.
The organization recognized the efforts of key officials in this case, specifically saluting Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, for their roles in defending Nigeria’s legal stance.
“This success strengthens the notion that our legal system is both capable and assertive in addressing complex international disputes,” Titus stated. “It reinforces the principle that contractual obligations should only be honored when value is demonstrably delivered.”
The Think Tank emphasized that the government’s handling of the dispute illustrates a dedication to ensuring public resources are not wasted on substandard services. Furthermore, it asserted that the outcome highlights the importance of institutional coordination and adherence to due process in resolving international legal matters.
The statement concluded by signaling Nigeria’s readiness to champion its interests in contractual issues, while maintaining a focus on transparency, accountability, and value for money in public procurement processes.
