Nigerian soldiers dying at alarming rate – Aisha Yesufu hits NASS

Activist Lawyer Raises Alarm Over Soldier Casualties in Nigeria
Activist lawyer Aisha Yesufu is calling for immediate action from the National Assembly amid rising casualties among Nigerian soldiers. She characterized the situation as “sickeningly alarming” and questioned the accountability of lawmakers elected to safeguard the interests of citizens.
Yesufu expressed concern regarding whether the National Assembly has summoned relevant authorities to address the crisis. She inquired about legislative measures aimed at improving protections and welfare for soldiers and their families.
Additionally, Yesufu highlighted the plight of families left behind by fallen troops, urging lawmakers to clarify available support systems for the relatives of deceased military personnel. She emphasized the need for transparency and action from the legislature.
“It is troubling to see such a high rate of loss,” Yesufu stated. “Where is the National Assembly? They were elected to be the people’s representatives and to protect their interests.”
Her remarks reflect a growing public unease regarding security challenges and the safety of military personnel engaged in various operations across Nigeria. Yesufu pointed out that, while a lack of decisive leadership from the commander-in-chief is concerning, an “inactive” National Assembly presents its own set of dangers.
“It is vital to know what is being done for the families of our slain heroes,” she added. “We need to understand the legislative efforts in place to ensure their well-being.”
Yesufu’s comments come as discussions about the roles and responsibilities of elected officials continue to evolve in the context of Nigeria’s ongoing security issues.
