Nine victims still in captivity after payment of N40m ransom by Kwara community

Nine Hostages Remain Captive After Ransom Payment in Kwara State

Adanla, Kwara State – Nine individuals abducted on December 26 by armed bandits in the Ifelodun Local Government Area remain in captivity despite a ransom payment of 40 million naira from the local community.

The victims were taken from the palace of the community’s monarch, Oba Olarinoye, who was not present at the time of the attack. The monarch was attending an event in nearby Igbaja when the armed bandits invaded the palace, searching for him and his queen. Instead, they abducted the nine individuals and forced them into the surrounding bush.

A family member of some of the victims, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed to the Daily Post that the ransom raised by community members and concerned citizens had been delivered to the abductors. However, the hostages have yet to be released, leaving the community in distress over their fate.

“They informed us that they are aware of the news reports regarding the victims’ abduction and are waiting for security agencies to act,” the relative said. They also attributed the hostage situation to local informants who allegedly provided the bandits with information.

The relative urged state government officials and security personnel to intervene and help secure the release of the hostages.
