Nnamdi Kanu: IPOB releases details of N10m payment to Ifeanyi Ejiofor, dismisses pro bono claims

IPOB Confirms Payment to Lawyer Despite His Claims of Pro Bono Representation
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has disclosed a payment of N10 million to Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who has asserted that he did not receive compensation for his legal services to Nnamdi Kanu during a terrorism trial.
Madam Nnennaya Anya, the Head of IPOB’s Finance Directorate, announced on Thursday that both Ejiofor and another lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, were compensated a total of $100,000 to represent Kanu. This payment was made in two installments to bank accounts specified by Ozekhome.
In a subsequent statement issued on Friday, IPOB detailed the transfer of N10 million to Ejiofor. The announcement was titled “Additional confirmation of financial transaction – payment of ₦10,000,000.00 to Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor via Office Manager.”
The statement emphasized the organization’s commitment to financial transparency. Anya noted that transaction records indicate the payment was processed on August 13, 2021, to an account linked to Ejiofor via his office manager, Miss Chinwe Umeche, at United Bank for Africa (UBA).
“This payment forms part of legitimate operational support processed under direct authorization of our leader Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” the statement read. Anya also encouraged individuals seeking verification to contact Umeche.
The organization plans to release additional documentation regarding another payment next week to address any remaining questions or inaccuracies. Anya stated that the briefing aims to uphold IPOB’s principles of transparency.
Ejiofor has maintained his stance that he did not collect any fees for representing Kanu. In a statement on his Facebook page, he challenged anyone with evidence of payment for his legal services to come forward and make it public.
