NNPCL moves toward commercial oil production at Eba, Ogun to join oil-producing states

NNPCL Conducts Site Inspection for Eba Oil Well in Ogun State

Abeokuta, Ogun State — A technical team from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) visited the Eba oil well in the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area to prepare for upcoming commercial drilling operations. This inspection comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the initiative, which is part of the Federal Government’s strategy to enhance technical capacity and infrastructure for oil production in the region.

The inspection involved NNPCL officials, representatives from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and personnel from national security agencies. They assessed the site’s readiness for drilling.

The delegation was led by Hussein Aliyu, Project Coordinator for Enserv, who heads the NNPCL Enserv technical team. His team included several specialists: Wasiu Adeniyi, Onwugba Kelechi, Engr. Rabiu M. Audu, Ojonoka Braimah, Ahmad Usman, Akinbosola Oluwaseyi, Salisu Nuhu, James Amezhinim, Yusuf Abdul-Azeez, Amararu Isukul, and Livinus J. Kigbu.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun praised the development, indicating that the commencement of drilling at Eba will promote economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the federal presence in the state’s coastal communities.

Geological reports have confirmed the existence of hydrocarbons in the Ogun Waterside area, leading NNPCL to conduct preliminary surveys and technical evaluations. The Ogun State Government has independently verified the oil well’s coordinates, confirming its location within state boundaries.

To ensure project security, naval personnel have been stationed at the site for over 18 months, backed by the Ogun State Government, to safeguard the facility and surrounding areas.

The Eba oil well is seen as a key component in Nigeria’s strategy to diversify oil production beyond the Niger Delta region. Stakeholders indicate that the focus will now shift to regulatory compliance, community engagement, environmental protection, and the smooth initiation of commercial operations.

The Ogun State Government also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his efforts in supporting the development of frontier oil basins and promoting equitable access to the nation’s energy resources.
