No. 1 Tide roll again, crushing Maryland to advance

Alabama continued to display why it is the No. 1- ranked men’s basketball team in the country and the top seed in the NCAA Tournament by crushing 8-seed Maryland, 73-51, on Saturday night at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Crimson Tide led 28-23 at the half, but broke the game open in the second half by outscoring the Terrapins 45-28.

Jahvon Quinerly and Brandon Miller combined to score 41 points, more than half of Bama’s total on the night.

Quinerly led the way with 22, hitting 9 of 14 shots from the field. He also added three steals.

Miller made just 5 of 17 field-goal attempts, but added 19 points and seven rebounds to the Bama cause.

Charles Bediako, the Tide’s 7-foot center, added 10 points and as many rebounds while also blocking two shots.

The Tide’s team defense held Maryland to .352 field-goal shooting overall (19 of 54) and allowed just one 3-pointer in eight attempts.
