Nollywood actor, Ijebu calls for King Mitchy’s arrest over alleged suicide attempt

Nigerian Actor Calls for Arrest of Content Creator Following Suicide Attempt

Nigerian actor Tayo Amokade, widely known as Ijebu, has urged law enforcement to arrest content creator King Mitchy in the wake of a recent suicide attempt that occurred during a live TikTok broadcast.

The incident transpired as King Mitchy reportedly ingested a toxic substance in an apparent effort to end her life amid ongoing public conflicts with fellow creator VeryDarkMan. Following the event, King Mitchy’s management claimed her actions were spurred by harassment from VeryDarkMan and his supporters.

This development has ignited widespread controversy on various social media platforms, prompting celebrities and influencers to create content that references the dangerous use of household chemicals, including hypo, for suicide.

In response, Ijebu expressed his concerns in an Instagram video, emphasizing the detrimental impact of such content on younger audiences. He pointed out that hypo, typically used as a cleaning agent, should not be portrayed as a means of self-harm.

“I am appealing to the police responsible for monitoring social media to take action,” Ijebu stated. “We have children between the ages of 10 and 21 who access this content. It is alarming to see hypo, which is meant for cleaning, being treated as a drink in discussions about suicide and depression.”

Ijebu further stressed the importance of promoting positive role models among the youth, urging authorities to intervene against any online promotion of self-harm. “If someone is feeling depressed, the answer should not be to take their life. We must hold accountable those who threaten to end it all in front of their followers,” he said, referencing King Mitchy’s live video where she consumed hypo in the presence of others.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding mental health awareness and the influence of social media on vulnerable individuals.
