Bendel Insurance will lose three points and three goals following the assault on match officials during their recent 1-0 defeat to Kano Pillars. The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) announced the sanctions after reviewing the events of the matchday 11 game held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
In addition to the point deduction, Bendel Insurance was fined N2 million for failing to ensure adequate security and proper conduct from their supporters. The club faces an additional N1 million fine for behavior deemed damaging to the reputation of the game. Bendel Insurance will also pay N250,000 each to match officials Adeniyi Adewale, Anuoluwapo Balogun, and Sodiq Sonibare, who were assaulted during the incident.
The Benin City club has 48 hours from the notice date to appeal the penalties.
