NRS Academy inaugurates curriculum review committee on national tax education reform

Nigeria Revenue Service Launches Curriculum Review Committee to Enhance Tax Education

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has established a Curriculum Review Committee to improve taxation education in Nigerian schools and support the development of a modern tax administration system. The committee was inaugurated on February 24, 2026, at the NRS Academy in Durumi.

Under the leadership of Mr. Adeolu Akinyemi, Director of the NRS Academy, the committee aims to collaborate with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) to create a comprehensive curriculum for the academy. This initiative seeks to ensure that academic training in taxation aligns with the evolving needs of tax administration and incorporates current developments in tax policy and practices.

The committee is tasked with reviewing existing taxation curricula at various institutions across Nigeria and proposing enhancements that reflect contemporary tax policies, recent legislative updates, and emerging areas such as digital taxation and global tax practices. This effort intends to connect academic learning with the practical realities of tax administration, equipping graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to Nigeria’s tax system.

In addition, the initiative is expected to boost tax awareness, promote voluntary compliance, and cultivate skilled tax professionals, thereby supporting national revenue growth and broader economic development.

The committee is chaired by the Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman of the NRS on Research and Statistics. Its members include representatives from the NRS and academic experts in taxation and fiscal policy, as well as professionals experienced in tax administration and policy development.

The committee will collaborate with relevant educational regulatory bodies and professional institutions to ensure the revised curriculum meets national academic standards and addresses the practical needs of tax administration in Nigeria.

The NRS noted that this initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing tax knowledge, fostering professional development, and encouraging responsible tax compliance throughout the country. The review process is expected to be completed within 60 days, after which updates on progress and implementation will be shared.
