NSCDC arrests two men for allegedly buying goods with fake Naira notes in Kwara

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command, has arrested two men for allegedly purchasing goods with fake N1,000 currency notes.

 

The suspects, Nicholas Kelechi, 25, and Benjamin Moore, 42, were arrested on Friday June 4, by NSCDC operatives at Yagba market in Patigi, headquarters of Patigi local government area of Kwara State on Friday, June 4. 

 

It was also gathered that the suspects purchased the fake N1,000 notes at a temple in Ibadan, Oyo state, with payment of a real N200 note for one fake N1,000 notes.

 

Spokesman of the NSCDC in the state, Babawale Afolabi, who confirmed the arrest said the principal suspect, Benjamin confessed to the crime, claiming that he introduced him to the business by someone he met in Lokoja. 

 

“Benjamin Moore, the ring leader hails from Ebonyi state but resides in Iseyin, Oyo State. He is currently running two homes, having a wife in Iseyin with five children and another in Enugu with four children,” Afolabi stated.

 

“He confessed that a man he met at Lokoja, Kogi state introduced the business to him. He said the man took him to a temple in Ibadan, Oyo state to collect the fake money, using N200 real note to buy N1,000 fake money. He said they decided to operate in faraway places like Patigi market where they can’t be easily traced.” he added.

The spokesman said that the suspects were still being interrogated at the state headquarters, Ilorin.
