NSCDC female officer dies after patrol vehicle accident

A female officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) died after being struck by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja, officials confirmed Saturday.

Afolabi Babawale, a spokesperson for the NSCDC, characterized the incident as a tragic accident that occurred during a coordinated drill designed to demonstrate force capabilities.

Videos circulating on social media captured the moment the officer was hit as the patrol vehicle made a turn during the exercise. The vehicle stopped immediately, and colleagues, along with bystanders, rushed to the scene to extricate her from beneath it. Despite efforts by emergency responders to evacuate her, she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Following the incident, Babawale stated that the NSCDC had initiated internal protocols to address the situation. “It is true that we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are already on their way to the residence of the deceased to commiserate with the family,” he said.

Further, he indicated that the NSCDC would release a detailed statement outlining the circumstances of the accident and the agency’s response.

As of Saturday, the identity of the deceased officer had not been publicly disclosed.
