Ogun State Judiciary Football Team Defeats NBA in Anniversary Match
Abeokuta, Ogun State — The Ogun State Judiciary football team claimed a 1-0 victory over its counterpart from the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in a novelty match held Wednesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena. This event was part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Ogun State Judiciary.
The match saw the NBA team awarded a penalty in the final moments of the second half, providing an opportunity to equalize. However, a remarkable save by the Judiciary’s goalkeeper secured the win for the home team.
Following the match, Chief Judge Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the judiciary’s commitment to fostering a healthy work-life balance among its staff.
“We encourage our staff to engage in sports activities, even in the workplace,” Justice Dipeolu said. She recounted past initiatives, including the establishment of a sports team during Justice Olopade’s tenure and the provision of facilities at the Isabo High Court for various games such as table tennis and chess.
The Chief Judge highlighted the growth of the Ogun State Judiciary over the years, noting increases in the number of judges, judicial divisions, and magisterial districts.
“The Ogun State Judiciary began at Isabo with a High Court and a Magistrate Court, starting with five judges. Today, we have 36 judges and 11 judicial divisions, alongside over 40 magistrates,” she explained.
Additionally, Justice Dipeolu mentioned the incorporation of judicial research officers to assist judges and the establishment of various court types, including multi-door courthouses and family courts.
“Initially, there was only a Chief Registrar and two deputies. Now, we have six deputies at the High Court and two directors at the multi-door courthouse, illustrating our significant expansion,” she added.
