Okuama President-General d!es in military detention

The President-General of Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Pa James Oghoroko, has reportedly died while in military custody, Vanguard reports.

Pa Oghoroko was arrested between August 18 and 20, 2024, along with other community leaders, including Prof Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, and Pa Dennis Okugbaye.

These arrests occurred after a violent incident leading to the deaths of 17 soldiers, prompting military action in the community.

The Okuama community, outraged by the unlawful arrests, filed a lawsuit against the Nigerian Army, demanding N100 million for illegal detention.

The Federal High Court in the last sitting on 20th November, 2024 had adjourned the bail application of the arrested leaders to December 9, 2024, to hear the motion.

Unfortunately, Oghoroko’s untimely death occurred just days before the bail hearing.

The news of Pa Oghoroko’s passing has devastated the Okuama community, with many expressing their grief and anger.

Community leaders held an emergency meeting to address the tragedy.

Olorogun Albert Akpomudje, the lead counsel for the detained leaders, expressed his sorrow over the loss.

“This is truly disturbing news. I will meet with family members and my team to determine our next steps,” he said.
