One Dead, Three Injured in Epe Traffic Collision
A traffic accident involving a truck loaded with yams and a commercial tricycle at Aiyetoro Junction near the Traffic Light corridor in Epe, Lagos, has resulted in one fatality and three serious injuries.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the incident occurred when the truck, identified by the plate number AGL 764 XB, attempted a U-turn from Ijebu-Ode direction. The driver reportedly lost control, crashing into a stationary tricycle with the plate number SMK 127 QR.
The impact of the collision claimed one life and left three others critically injured. LASTMA officials, who were conducting routine traffic management nearby, responded quickly to the scene in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service.
Emergency responders successfully extricated the injured victims from the damaged vehicle and transported them, along with the deceased, to General Hospital, Epe, for medical attention.
Security forces worked to maintain order during the rescue operations and to restore traffic flow in the area.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, extended condolences to the family of the deceased. He expressed hope for a swift recovery for the injured and emphasized the need for accountability.
“We urge security authorities to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the accident’s causes, ensuring that any wrongdoing is met with appropriate legal consequences,” Bakare-Oki stated.
LASTMA continues to collaborate with relevant agencies to enhance road safety and prevent future incidents.
