Troops Repel Boko Haram Attacks in Borno State
Troops from the Joint Task Force North East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, successfully thwarted coordinated assaults by Boko Haram/ISWAP militants on Forward Operating Bases in the Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram communities of Borno State.
The attacks unfolded between late February 28 and the early hours of March 1, 2026, targeting military positions within Sector II of Operation HADIN KAI.
In a statement released on Sunday, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, confirmed that the troops repelled these assaults, inflicting significant casualties on the attackers. Reports indicated that the Forward Operating Base in Mayanti, located in Bama Local Government Area, faced a heavy offensive from a large group of insurgents.
Despite intense gunfire, troops held their positions while reinforcements navigated ambushes and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Military sources confirmed the deaths of five insurgents during the clashes. Additionally, the troops recovered numerous weapons, including PKT guns, RPG-7 tubes, AK-47s, FN rifles, RPG bombs, and various ammunition. However, one officer was killed in the engagement.
Around 1:15 a.m. on March 1, insurgents launched an attack on FOB Gajiram, employing heavy weapons and drones. The troops, with aerial support, managed to repel this assault as well. During the withdrawal, three bodies were recovered, along with rifles, anti-tank bombs, mortar bombs, an armed drone, and other equipment. One soldier sustained injuries and was airlifted for medical treatment.
In related operations, troops engaged insurgents at Kayawa village, driving them into retreat and resulting in the abandonment of motorcycles and bicycles. In separate ambush operations near Bulturam Corner and Dadingel in Gujba Local Government Area, two insurgents were reported killed and additional weaponry was confiscated.
The military announced that all affected locations remain secured, with ongoing operations across the region.
