Osun Assembly passes amended bill on local government laws

Osun House of Assembly Passes Local Government Law Amendment
OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Osun House of Assembly passed an amendment to the state’s local government law on Monday during a plenary session. The legislation, titled the “Osun State Local Government Amendment No. 2 Bill 2026,” concluded its third reading before being approved.
Mr. Lawal Bamidele, Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Public Account, presented the committee’s report on the bill, including recommendations for consideration. Following the presentation, Speaker Mr. Adewale Egbedun called for the report’s adoption, which was seconded by Majority Leader Mr. Babajide Adewumi.
Adewumi also moved the motion for the third reading of the bill, which was subsequently passed by the assembly.
After the approval, Egbedun announced that clean copies of the bill would be forwarded to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his assent. The amendment seeks to revise the Osun State Local Government Law, specifically Cap 72 Vol. IV, Laws of Osun State 2002.
The House of Assembly has scheduled its next session for March 2.
