Osun State Police Arrest Two Customs Officers Following Fatal Shooting

Osogbo, Nigeria — The Osun State Police Command has apprehended two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan confirmed the arrests made shortly after the incident. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi provided details on behalf of the commissioner.

According to police reports, the suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, were pursuing vehicles suspected to be illegally imported when gunfire erupted. The officers were taken into custody following community reports of the shooting.

“The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that occurred today in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo,” the statement said.

During the pursuit, police reported that the driver of an ash-colored Toyota Corolla, one of the vehicles involved, was struck by a bullet and later pronounced dead at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, and the body has been placed in the hospital’s morgue while awaiting identification.

Investigators recovered several items from the scene, including a Beretta pistol, eleven rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one expanded 9mm shell, and two Toyota Corolla vehicles with registration numbers AAA 400 GQ (Lagos) and GFQ 0982 (Texas).

CP Gotan has mandated a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The police have assured the public that those found responsible will face legal consequences and have urged residents to remain calm while providing credible information to support the ongoing inquiry.
