Three Bodies Recovered from Oyo State River Following Bus Accident

OYO STATE, Nigeria — Emergency responders from the Oyo State Fire Service have recovered three bodies from the Ariyo River following a bus accident on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the Ona Ara local government area when a bus with Osun registration number LEW 484 XA lost control and plunged into the river. According to officials, the bus was carrying eight passengers at the time of the accident.

Five survivors were successfully rescued and transported to Ona-Ara Private Hospital in the Jegede area for medical treatment, Oyo State Fire Service Chairman Hon. Maroof Akinwande confirmed.

Akinwande reported that the three deceased individuals were handed over to a police team from the Ogbere Divisional Headquarters, led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.

“A Suzuki bus (Osun) LEW 484 XA with eight passengers lost control and crashed into a river,” Akinwande stated. “Five individuals were rescued and taken to Ona Ara Private Hospital, while three bodies were recovered.”

Akinwande also noted that representatives from the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) and Ona Ara Local Government were present at the scene. Initial investigations suggest that reckless driving may have contributed to the accident.
