[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] You’ll notice that the Paul & Joe Sun Care range calls their SPFs ‘primers’ which are not to be confused with traditional make up primers. These are normal SPFs that ‘prime’ the body for the sun – which does take you down the wrong track – I spent quite a long time wondering why I might prime my body… I really thought they were to use under SPF. So, with that cleared up, the star product (in my view) is the Sun Protection Body Shimmer, SPF30, which is about as gentle a shimmer as you can get with the tiniest twinkles.

All of the products are scented in that soap-meets-beach kind of way that sun lotions often have and everything can be used on the face if you’re okay with fragrance.

I’ve got to admit that the collection is confusing – the little white Body Primer Super UV is one of the most fluid SPFs I’ve ever come across making it ideal for the face so I honestly don’t understand why it’s called a Body Primer. But, I will say that Asian brands and SPFs are a match made in heaven – they understand, in a way that your average Soltan doesn’t, about humidity and sweat and combining skin care within the formula as standard for more of a 360 approach. There’s so much more of a focus now on SPFs in the UK that didn’t exist even 10 years ago so we are benefiting from nations that use it every day as a matter of course throughout their lives. The days of only using SPF on holiday are long gone as we understand more about the effects of sun on skin and many of the formulas we can buy – particularly for the face – are a much higher standard and more wearable than they ever were.

So, what you’ll find with the Paul & Joe sun care is body formulas that are as skin caring as face care. I don’t know how necessary that is to be honest, but don’t be put off by the ‘body’ labels on the packaging because they’re fine everywhere.

On the skin, they’re barely perceptible – I’m not sure I’d go for the tinted version because that just seems a recipe for disaster in application terms – but otherwise, you’ll find that you don’t get any oily finish or chalkiness but above all, your skin can ‘breathe’. Personally, I’m not as particular about body SPF these days as I am about face (with the exception of Institut Esthederm which I love) – when we go away for a long weekend with friends, we buy a large bottle of whatever when we get there and share between us (you cannot fit an adequate amount in the carry-on allowance plastic bags). I think maybe the Paul & Joe collection is more for going about your daily business in the summer than to take to the beach where looking a bit slick doesn’t look strange! I can’t really get my head around the SPF6 at all but then, I’m not the police of sun lotions, so it’s each to their own.
